Q. So, you think you don’t need to give your new employees a contract of employment, after all, you are a nice person and so are they, so why bother with pesky pieces of paper.

A. You have to worry about it, it’s the law. The 1996 Employments Rights Act to be specific, and it was updated last year. Under the 1996 Act, which was updated last year, employees now have the right to a contract of employment from day 1. It has to have certain information in it.

If you don’t give them this, you are breaking the law and they can go to an Employment Tribunal to force this. They don’t need any qualifying length of service to do this and you will be paying 2 weeks wages to them for something that is your fault in the first place.

So, you need to do this, it is the law, but you don’t know where to start from, so give us a call on 07970797544 or email us at [email protected] and we can start to provide you with some of our award winning HR Support.
